The latest discovery strengthens the prospect of a new Mac mini, which has been said to be coming in a few weeks. Aaron Perris of MacRumors claims that Apple has referenced an “Apple silicon Mac mini (five USB-C Ports)” in some code, suggesting that the company is considering releasing a similar device.
MacRumors does not mention the source of the code reference. The code was probably included in the official version of iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18, visionOS 2, watchOS 11, and tvOS 11 that Apple released on Monday.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Macs equipped with the M4 processor will be sent by Apple “in the coming weeks”. Apple will update the Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro, as he announced back in April. Gurman has previously revealed that the Mac mini would have five USB-C ports, three on the rear and two on the front and a new, sleeker design that puts it around the same dimension as the Apple TV.
The back of the chassis of the current model has either two or four Thunderbolt 4/USB-C connectors. Additionally, they have two USB-A ports, which Gurman says Apple will not be including in the next model.
Gurman thinks since 2010 this year will see the Mac mini go through its first major overhaul. He claims that the new gadget would not feature the USB-A ports seen on the previous iterations, be almost as small as an Apple TV, and provide M4 and M4 Pro processor choices. The most recent Mac mini was introduced in January 2023 and includes an HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, four Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a headphone jack.
The positive news is that it appears that Apple will make the M4 Mac mini available this autumn, maybe during an October Apple Event. Marc Gurman of Bloomberg has said several times that an M4 Mac mini would be available until the final year of 2024.
In January 2023, Apple revealed the last Mac mini, which used M2 and M2 Pro SoCs. Apple should consider forgoing the M3 generation. Unusually for the firm, just the iPad Pro with M4 SoC is offered at this time. What additional ports the next Mac mini will feature is unknown.
The PCs now include two USB-A ports, four Thunderbolt 4 connections with USB-C, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and a headphone connector. If any of this gets dropped is still to be seen. Traditionally, the Mac mini has been shipped without a keyboard, mouse, or trackpad. Still, it’s the least expensive Mac available from Apple.
Apple fans are excited to see the new Mac mini’s improved design and cutting-edge technology, which will make it an attractive addition to the range, as its release draws closer.
