The M3 generation of Apple’s System on a Chip began in November, while Ultra Mac Studio and the M2 Max arrived at WWDC 23 in June of last year. Thus, as WWDC 24 approaches near, it’s appropriate to begin anticipating the upcoming Mac Studio.
The closer June 2024 gets, the more rumours will move around, and before the new Mac Studio is officially announced, anything that is being said today could (and probably will) change. We’ll monitor the comments made on this topic.
Two generations of Mac Studio have been available. In March 2022, the first generation—the M1 Max and Ultra—was made accessible. At WWDC 23 in June, the second generation (M2 Max and Ultra) was launched. For the next Mac Studio, Apple is probably going to stick with its March or June timeline.
The next Mac Studio could launch in the second half of 2024, which most likely corresponds to a WWDC release, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who made this announcement in the premium version of his Power On newsletter. The new Mac Studio may also be released in the middle of this year, according to ICsmart. WWDC is an accurate prediction because Apple doesn’t usually have stand-alone events in the summer.
There have been no reports of design modifications to the Mac Studio. Since the present design is still functional and has been in use for three years, it seems unlikely that Apple will alter it. The new space black colour option that matches the MacBook Pro is the lone potential exception.
With the next Mac Studio, the SoC will be the primary (and probably only) modification made. The M3 Max and M3 Ultra are the new processors that we will see since the Mac Studio should still have the Max and Ultra versions of its M-series chips.
The M3 Max Mac Studio could come with the same processors as the present M3 Max MacBook Pro, which comes with a 14-core CPU/30-core GPU or a 16-core CPU/38-core G.
The GPU and CPU cores of the Max have increased thanks to Apple’s Ultra processors. This should continue, according to a January 2024 Bloomberg article by Mark Gurman in the premium edition of his Power On newsletter, with the M3 Ultra offering up to 32 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores. An improved 3nm technology will be used in the production of the M3 Ultra, according to a report published in January by The Elect.
The Mac Studio’s other features ought to continue being the same. Thus, there won’t be any modifications made to the ports, speaker, SSD sizes, connection, or display support.
There have been no reports regarding the M3 Mac Studio’s pricing.
While the Mac Studio’s price has already gone up outside of the United States (it was initially £1,999 in the United Kingdom), pricing in the United States remained the same when Apple switched from M1 to M2 CPUs, and they could remain the same if an M3 update is made. However, the price of the M3 Max model with the base configuration went hiked by $100 when Apple announced the M3 Pro and Max MacBook Pros, so there’s a significant chance that the price of the Mac Studio will increase.
